Millennia ago, two arch-wizard rivals were at war. For one hundred blood-stained years, Aldorax and Razenor battled each other, each developing ever more potent spells and wreaking magical destruction in their wake. No one can say how their war started, but everyone knows how it ended. After a hundred years of non-stop magical barragement, the battleground became unstable. Spells began to backfire. Some spells fizzled, while others amplified a hundredfold. The land itself was blighted by their terrible misuse of magic. Monsters were driven underground and all decent folk vacated the territory. Eventually, Razenor finally killed Aldorax, his spell empowered by the foul lands on which it was crafted. Their battlefield became known as the Forsaken Lands. And so it has been for nearly a millennium... the territory was avoided by all for fear of whatever lingering spell effects may persist. Recently, however, The Empire has deemed the area safe enough for inhabitation. A small city nestled between mountain ranges has cropped up, Brighthall, and adventurers of all stripes now flock there. Tales of crumbling keeps, abandoned castles, and (importantly!) hoards of long forgotten treasure attract fortune-seekers and explorers from the world over. Will you stake your claim and reap untold spoils? Or will you die trying? Welcome to the Forsaken Lands!
Its horns are said to have magical powers, perhaps someone would be interested in them?
The streets of Brighthall teem with adventurers of all kinds. Some have just arrived, fresh from the heartlands of The Empire, while others have already long been battle-tested by The Forsaken Lands. While all are welcome at The Brighthall Delving Society, many choose to spend their time and coin at a number of inns, wine dens, and watering holes.
